Description
Experience the beauty of Auckland from a different perspective with Auckland Sea Kayaks. After a safety briefing and paddling instruction, you will kayak across the sparkling waters of the Waitemata Harbor, where you may spot wildlife such as Little Blue Penguins and Cooks Petrels. Upon arriving at Rangitoto Island, the largest and youngest of Auckland's volcanoes, you will embark on a leisurely 1-hour hike to the summit. As you ascend the pohutukawa-cloaked island, you will have the chance to explore the baked scoria rocks and observe over 200 different native trees and flowering plants. Once you reach the summit, you will be rewarded with the finest 360-degree views of the Auckland region. After your descent, a hearty kiwi lunch will be awaiting you, with cold and hot drinks to match. If time permits, you may even take a refreshing dip in the sea before packing up and kayaking back to St Heliers Bay. This exciting, action-packed and educational day requires moderate fitness, as you will need to hike 2.5 km (1.5 miles) rising 270 meters (900 feet) and kayak up to 60 - 90 minutes each way. To keep these islands pest-free, make sure to check your gear before leaving the mainland and clean your footwear and gear, removing soil and seeds. You may be met by rangers to recheck your gear when you arrive on a pest-free island. Join Auckland Sea Kayaks and explore the landmark of the Auckland region!
